Framework agreement for homecare service provided by midwives

Maternity care is a part of health care that Icelandic Health Insurance provides pregnant women before, during and after labor. The service is provided to all social health insured women and by in-home visits before and through labor to women who choose to give birth at home. The service also includes in-home visits after birth to women and their newborns either after delivering at home or hospital.

Support, care, and guidance provided by the midwife shall be both general and specific as needed for the mother to recover and the newborn to breastfeed and thrive well. Midwife shall practice their service according to evidence-based practice.

The framework agreement will be open for all midwifes that:

1) Have appropriate insurances according to Icelandic laws and regulations.

2) Have permission to practice as midwife according to:

- Medical Director of Health and Public Health Act, No. 41/2007.

- Healthcare Practitioners Act No. 34/2012.

- Regulation on the education, rights and obligations of midwives and criteria for granting of licences and specialist licences, No. 1089/2012.

3) Have at least two years of experience working as midwife.

4) Are Icelandic speaking. If Icelandic is not first language, Icelandic knowledge and skills have to be at minimum level B2 at the European language levels (CEFR).

Duration in months: 12 months, with optional 2x12 months prolongation.
